Introduction
The following information lists the current modules and who should attend as part of the Blackburn Diocesan Training Strategy 2017-2018
Everyone should complete the C0 online module followed by either the C1 online module or a C1 & C2 combined course depending on their role in church. All clergy should complete the C0 online module followed by the C3 Clergy course.

The Core Modules C0 - Basic Safeguarding Awareness C1 - Foundation These modules are e-learning awareness raising sessions that looks at safeguarding in the church context. Please note everyone should complete the C0 Basic Safeguarding Awareness online module before progressing on to subsuquent courses.
C1 & C2 Combined Course - Safeguarding Foundation and Leadership for Lay People This session explores safeguarding in the church context, what abuse is and how to respond and report it as well as looking at the responsibilities of various roles and the implementation of safeguarding practices and procedures.
C3 - Safeguarding Foundation and Leadership for Clergy This session is for clergy. It looks at safeguarding in the church context, what abuse is and how to respond and report it as well as looking at the responsibilities of clergy and the implementation of safeguarding practices and procedures.
C5 - Refresher This session refreshes and deepens personal knowledge on the practice of safeguarding. (C5 will not be available until 2018)
S1 Safer Recruitment This module looks at statutory guidance and legislation in relation to safer recruitment and helps participants to develop a deeper understanding of The Church of England’s recruitment procedures.
S3 Responding to Domestic Abuse This module examines issues relating to domestic abuse, especially for vulnerable groups and children in the context of adult abuse, and how the Church can respond well to this.

Safeguarding training & booking on a course C0 – BASIC SAFEGUARDING AWARENESS This is an e-learning awareness raising sessions that looks at the church context and should be completed by everyone including Clergy before progressing on to subsequent courses. C1 - FOUNDATION This module is now available as an e-learning session and should be completed by those not needing to progress to subsuquent courses.

Clergy All clergy must attend C3 and then attend a refresher session, C5, every three years thereafter.

Readers & Commisioned Pastoral Assistants, All PCC members, Parish Safeguarding Co-Ordinators, Church Wardens, PCC Safeguarding Lead, Volunteers (with responsibility for activities for vulnerable groups) & paid workers All the above roles must attend the C1 & C2 Combined Course and then attend a refresher session, C5, every three years thereafter. In addition, Parish Safeguarding Co-ordinators and those involved in recruitment must attend the specialist module S1 Safe Recruitment. S1 is attended once only and is not renewable every three years.

The Specialist Modules S1 Safer Recruitment
This module looks at statutory guidance and legislation in relation to safer recruitment and helps participants to develop a deeper understanding of The Church of England’s recruitment procedures, especially safer recruitment procedures and increase confidence in carrying out the recruitment process. Who must attend? Incumbents, Priests-in-Charge, Team Vicars, clergy with particular responsibility for parish safe recruitment, Parish Safeguarding Co-ordinators, PCC Safeguarding Leads and Parish Identity Verifiers must attend. The module may be desirable for other roles that have responsibility for carrying out the recruitment process in the local church.

S3 Responding to Domestic Abuse
This module examines issues relating to domestic abuse, especially for vulnerable groups and children in the context of adult abuse, and how the Church can respond well to this. Who must attend? Anyone holding the Bishop’s Licence or Permission to Officiate, Spiritual Directors, Pastoral Visitors, Leaders of children/adult’s activities, Diocesan/Parish/Cathedral safeguarding officers, Senior staff teams, Churchwardens, Youth Workers.
